What car to get when you’re 17 and just passed your driving test
So you passed your driving test and you want a motor to smoke round in at pace, but you don’t want the insurance to come down on you like a piano falling from the empire state building.
I have a list of cars to get which shouldn’t cripple your wallet but at the same time you will be travelling at pace.
Honda CRX Mk 2 – This is the sports hatch of the early 90’s, see if you can bag yourself a bargain, prices start from around £500 and can be as much as £3000 for a minter, but remember what you’re driving here, we’re looking for the VTEC model, epically named the CRX-VT.

To put this car into perspective this car has almost 150 horsepower per tonne, a new Mk5 Golf GTI has 200 horsepower but weighs in at a fat 1400Kg putting you both on a level playing field. Both top speeds are identical. Only the Golf costs around 14k second hand and you’ll never get insured.
